4 Things Writers Can Learn From Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope you and your family is taking the time today to sit down and enjoy this day. NaNoWriMo is still going on so if you’re participating this year, try not to feel overwhelmed and enjoy your day.

I hope this post puts you in the Thanksgiving mood. Happy writing.

1.  To Be Thankful

This one is pretty obvious but sometimes overlooked. As a writer, it’s easy to want so much from yourself and your readers, but you have to remember the great things you have already created and the people who are thankful for them.

Don’t be too hard on yourself if you haven’t reached your goals yet. Keep pushing yourself but give yourself credit along the way.

 2.  To Relax

A holiday is a mini vacation and on vacation you’re not supposed to stress yourself out.  NaNoWriMo’s going on, there’s sales going on everywhere and you have to put that tree up for Christmas but all-in-all give yourself a break.

It’s your day too so remember to put down the pen and to step away from the keyboard. Take a nap, or if you’re old enough have a drink. Just don’t forget to celebrate you this holiday and to refuel your creativity for days to come.

3.  To Spend Time With Family and Friends

Thanksgiving is a holiday for getting the entire family together to talk, laugh and just update each other on everything that’s going on. Don’t forget to show your face and talk about your endeavors. You never know how proud your family may be of you.

4.  To Have Fun

Yes, writing is fun but playing silly games and watching sports with family and friends for a day is fun too.  Try not to be a writing loner and join in on any family activities.

If your family is not into games, you can still talk and joke around. The important thing is to laugh and enjoy being around the people you love.

I hope you enjoyed the post and I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving and happy holidays.
