Have you ever had a bunch of ideas going on in your head at the same time for a novel? You like all your ideas but you just can’t figure out which one to choose.
Try these steps for the next time you get stuck:
1.Think about the ‘why’ and the ‘what’
-Why do you want to write a novel?
-What message do you want the novel to give to your readers?
2. Consider your passion levels
-Which topic would be your favorite topic to write about?
-Writing a novel with a topic that you’re passionate about will be easier to write
While it is important to think about the reader, you don’t want to commit yourself to something that you think will sell but won’t enjoy writing. It has to be a topic that does both. If not, it may not be worth the dread of writing it.
Pick a topic that you believe in, not because the topic is the new “big thing” (yea, I’m talking about Vampires)
-What do you want to do with this story when you’re finished? Sell it? Or keep it for your own enjoyment?
Knowing the answer to this question helps you to narrow your focus to choose a topic that will be most beneficial you in the end.
Focus on what you want to achieve with writing this book and how writing this book will help you.
No matter what your topic is, make sure it’s something that interests you personally. No wants to read something that the author didn’t enjoy writing. 😉
How do you choose a topic for your next novel? Love to know your thoughts.
